Why our service looks the way it does.

We believe God tells us how He wants to be worshiped. That principle — that we do in worship what God has commanded, rather than what we find compelling — shapes everything below.

God speaks. We respond.

Worship is a conversation God initiates. He calls; we come. He convicts; we confess. He pardons; we give thanks. He instructs; we listen. He blesses; we go. That structure is why the order of our service is not arbitrary.

The elements

• Call to Worship — Scripture, not an announcement. God summons His people.
• Singing — psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, chosen for what they teach. Congregational, not performed.
• Confession and Assurance — we say honestly what we are, and we are told just as honestly what Christ has done.
• Scripture Reading — read aloud, publicly, without comment. The Word deserves that.
• Catechism — a question for the children, in English and Spanish.
• Preaching — expository, through books of the Bible, roughly 30 minutes.
• Prayer — for the church, the sick, the government, the nations, and this congregation by name.
• Offering — a response, not a fundraiser.
• The Lord's Supper — once a month.
• Benediction — God's blessing pronounced over His people as they are sent out.

Why we preach through books

When the preacher chooses the topic, the congregation gets the preacher's hobby-horses. When the text chooses the topic, the congregation eventually gets the whole counsel of God — including the parts nobody would have volunteered for. We are currently working through Romans.

Why the children stay in

Worship here is family-integrated. We run no nursery and no parallel children's programme.

Because they are members of the covenant community, not a demographic to be entertained elsewhere. They will not follow every sentence. Neither do we. They are learning what a Christian family does on the Lord's Day, and that lesson takes years.
